News From Matt!

This year Matt Hadley of Penniac, NB, just outside of Fredericton, joined Xprezo's Professional Mountain Bike Team. Previously he rode with Rocky Mountain. As you'll read below, Matt is doing very well! He sent me this update earlier in the week and was happy to let me publish it. Along with the updates we're getting from the Tour de Guadelopue this is just one more fine example of our Maritime riders throwing down!

Well done Matt, and thank you kindly for the update. Please, keep them coming!

Welcome FITWORKS!

FITWORKS is the newest bike shop in Moncton, and they're also the newest member of the ECMTB team. Rheal Jaillet of FITWORKS Moncton was eager to jump into the local mountain biking scene earlier this year, and generously donated some great prizes to ECMTB for the Woolastook 5. FITWORKS was good to us, and we knew we could be good to them by working with them for the year online. East Coast Mountain Biking is still developing itself all over New Brunswick, and this is a big step towards making both ECMTB and FITWORKS regular names on Moncton trails.

What's Their Secret?

The Woolastook 5 in Fredericton (NB) and The Links Summer Solstice in The Valley (NS) both saw a dominant performance in the Open Men's category with Cyclesmith sweeping the podium in both races. What's more, in the Valley, Cyclesmith racers were responsible for the top six finishers in that category. Not to be out done by the men, Cyclesmith has also seen the podium in the women's category.

How are they doing this? East Coast Mountain Biking Wants to know! Join us in the 'Whats New on ECMTB' Forum this Sunday June 29th a 8:00 p.m. where the Cyclesmith crew will answer our questions on "how they do it."

ECMTB to work with BNS and Velo NB in 2008

For 2008 ECMTB has made independant arrangements with Bicycle Nova Scotia and Velo New Brunswick. East Coast Mountain Biking will provide both BNS and Velo NB with exposure for their respective events, races, clinics and courses. ECMTB owners Chris "Replicator" Kozanczyn and Andrew "O9Man" Lowery recognized the opportunity for the two provincial organizations and drew up a plan that was readily accepted in both provinces.

My First Post

I officially became a member of ECMTB sometime in 2004. Long before that I lurked the forums and browsed the articles. I'll admit that I was slightly intimidated by the obvious community, and I was hesitant to try and infiltrate the clique.

Wikipedia defines a clique as an exclusive group of people who share common interests, views, purposes, or patterns of behavior. All the members of the group have some type of relationship with one another, and thus the group is tightly knit together as a type of social network.

ECMTB Skills Camps Cancelled Due to Injury

It is with extreme disappointment and regret that we are forced to announce that the 2006 ECMTB Skills Camps will be cancelled. Our instructor Jay Hoots has suffered a broken wrist that will prevent him from effectively teaching. Although we have made an effort to find a replacement, at such short notice there is no certified instructor available who can cover the scope of skills that Jay was scheduled to teach. We would like to extend a sincere apology to all participants for this unfortunate turn of events and inconvenience.

June is International Buy Your Kid a Rake and Shovel month

The other day, I was engaged in a conversation and something came up. Why do kids these days spend so much time inside playing video games and on the internet? I think parents can help us out a little here. What I'm saying is it's International Buy Your Kid a Rake and Shovel Month here on ecmtb.

Interested in Saving Mountain Bike Trails in HRM? Read on!

Many of the trails we ride and love in the immediate HRM vicinity are scheduled to fall victim to commercial and housing development. Whopper, Burnside, Fight Trail and others are already headed for the chopping block. It will only be a matter of time before this prime real estate is completely butchered and we are left without local trail systems worth riding. In addition, as the trail options lessen, traffic on the remaining trails will increase and conflicts between the various user groups are bound to become more of a problem.

2004 Over and Out

A thought from Bikergrl

2004 is just hours from ending and waiting for supper to cook I suddenly realized that you should know what this past year has meant for me and those I share my life with, because believe it or not, you've been part of it.

Every night my mother chimes in on MSN and asks me "What's new with you?" With the exception of a few days this year that started or ended on particularly bad notes, I tell her "Nothing."

Truth is, this year has been jam packed with new, both good and bad.

Anti-Cycling Bill Introduced To NYC City Council

NOVEMBER 22, 2004 -- NEW YORK, NY (BRAIN)--A draconian anti-cycling bill that could reduce by 50 percent the number of people cycling in New York City was recently introduced to the New York City Council.

According to New York City's Transportation Alternatives, "If passed, Int. No. 497 would require every bicycling New Yorker over sixteen years old to obtain bicycle license tags from the NYC Department of Transportation. The bill stipulates that those who do not display such tags on their bicycles (could) be subject to up to 15 days imprisonment in addition to hefty fines and bicycle confiscation."

Colin Gash - May you rest in peace...

It is with the utmost sadness that I am posting this thread. Colin Gash, only 25 years old was taken from us today. Colin suffered a brain aneurysm on Tuesday, July 27, 2004. This left him unconscious until his ever so unfortunate death today, July 29, 2004.

Colin was a dear friend of mine. He worked at The Bike People store as a technician and that's where we met. He taught me a lot about life in general. To live life to the fullest and hold nothing back.

Fabien Barel Wins Mega Avalanche

Fabien Barel of the Kona Clarks Factory Team has won the Mega Avalanche race in the Reunion Islands. No UCI points were awarded, as you might have guessed, and kicking butt in random fests held on small French-speaking islands in the Indian Ocean is not really part of Fabien's world cup prep strategy.
