Wentworth Shuttle/Race Weekend FAQs

Press release
Look no further - everything you ever wanted to know about the Wentworth Shuttle Days is right here. Before you ask those same old questions, read carefully and find out what's involved this year.

What are the dates this year for the races and shuttle weekends?
The shuttle/race weekends this season are June 9/10th and October 13/14th. Riding will commence both days at 10AM. On Saturday the shuttles will stop running at 5PM. The format this year is shuttle day on Saturday and race day Sunday. We decided to do this this year to help the racers get some more time on the hill to prepare for the race. This also allows those who would just like to ride for fun to check out the trails. Plus we're hoping to have people hang around for the weekend to make it a festival sort of thing.

Can anyone just show up to ride?
We changed the rules this year a bit. This year each and every person who shows up must be a member of a CCA (Canadian Cycling Association) registered cycling club. A lot ofshops have registered clubs. Check with you local bike shop for information. If your local shop does not have a club you can purchase a general membership directly from BNS or Velo NB.
The cost will vary between organizations. BNS is $25 and Velo NB is $30.

Velo NB membership form: http://www.velo.nb.ca/velonb/form/membershipapplication2007.pdf

Purchase a race license for either BNS or Velo NB. The links above will also allow you to apply for a membership. A race license in NS is $95, if you are a member of a registered cycling club, and $105 if you are not. A race license in NB varies based on your category and age. See the link above for more information.

***Please note that you do not require a general membership or race license to take part in the Fall Festival of Colors.

If I do not have any of these and I show up...will I be able to participate?
No. These new rules are created for insurance purposes. If one person is not a member of any sort of club and does not possess a general membership or race license and participates in the festivities...then the whole insurance thing is void. These rules will protect the land owners and the organizers in the event if someone gets hurt and sues. No membership = no fun.

What does it cost for the shuttle day?
The cost for the shuttle day is $20. If you plan on racing on the following day...$10 will be credited towards your race registration on race day.

Are there age requirements?
Yes...you must be old enough to be able to race DH in NS or NB. You must be 15yrs of age as of December 31, 2007.

Can I ride my xc bike?
Sure can. There will be a bike check when you pay your cash. YOU MUST have 2 working brakes. A road bike wouldn't be recommended.

What about riding gear? What should I wear?
Arm Pads/ Shin Pads or long sleeve shirt and long pants are mandatory. You must also have a full face helmet. XC/ Half shell helmets are not acceptable. Full finger gloves are also mandatory.

Anything else I should take?
The following items would be highly recommended:
-Lots of Fluids and food
-Sunscreen
-Bug spray
-Spare tires/tubes
-Repair tools
-skills

Is there lift access?
No there is not. Transportation to the top of the hill will be via truck. Lift access is only provided during the Festival of Colors on Thanksgiving Weekend.

Will I be able to join a club the day of the event?
We don't have a registered cycling club at the moment and were hoping to get away to from lots of paperwork the day of the event. I don't know about anyone else...but I want to ride my bike...not fill out papers all day. This information is being posted well enough in advance that mostly everyone should have time to register with a club or BNS/Velo NB before the actual event date. If we decide to go ahead and create a club...that information will be posted.

If I want to stay the whole weekend...where can I stay?
Across from Ski Wentworth is the Wentworth Hostel. They usually charge $10 to throw up a tent for the night. The phone number is 902-548-2379. It would be a wise idea to call ahead of time to arrange accommodations if you do not want to set up a tent and want to stay inside the hostel. The Wentworth Valley Inn is also just up the road... their number is 902-548-2202.

So can you break down what it will cost me for the weekend's events?
Shuttle day only: $20
Shuttle day and race day (with race license): $20 shuttle day + $15 race day registration = $35
Shuttle day and race day (no race license): $20 shuttle day + $15 registration + $20 one day license = $55
Race Day only (with race license): $25
Race Day only (without race license): $25 registration + $20 for one day license= $45

Anything else I should be aware of?
Yes...we have a strict policy of no littering. Anyone caught doing so will be asked to leave immediately. That being said... the proper facilities will be set up to accommodate this.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the hill this year! It's going to be a great season!
