PEI Accommodation Contest to Benefit Out-of-Province Cyclists
SUMMERSIDE, PEI, February 4, 2007 - Country Pines has increased its commitment to Breakfast Programs across PEI through a renewed and increased support of the annual Biking for Breakfast Challenge (BFBC).
Country Pines will offer a BFBC Starter Kit to three non-PEI riders who participate in the August 4, 2007, fund-raiser. The Kit includes one free night's accommodation plus free transportation to and from the event.
The top two riders who have successfully referred the most people to the event will be awarded two of the Starter Kits. The third Kit will consist of a random draw of all other out of province riders. The BFBC website (www.bikingforbreakfast.com) will have a current top 5 ranking of riders who have referred the most cyclists to date.
"The goal is clear: to break down barriers to participation," says Ken Trenholm, Chair of the BFBC planning committee "while encouraging off-Island participation.".
"Out of province cyclists have additional travel and accommodation costs and I hope this partnership in some small way acknowledges their added costs and travel."
Country Pines have also come on for a second year as one of four Official Refueling Stations for the event.
The deadline to be considered for the Country Pines BFBC Starter Kit is May 20, 2007. So, organizers of the event are encouraging people to register early and to spread the word.
As Trenholm concludes, "by spreading the word about this event, you may save yourself money and save a child's future at the same time. It doesn't get much better than that."
BFBC is entering its third year and is a tip to tip 278 km one day bicycle event to raise money and awareness for breakfast programs across PEI. Full or partial ride options are available. The event recently won a National Inspiration and Leadership Award handed out by the Breakfast for Learning non-profit organization. BFBC is organized by a volunteer planning committee and is the major event for the 2007 season for the Summerside Cycling Club. An endurance cycling series has been added to the Club's 2007 schedule to build people up to biking across PEI in one day.
