Finally Spring is Here - New Brunswick Scene Report #3

With the credits of Manifesto rolling by, Canada flag flapping on the screen, I begin my article. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, I highly suggest going out and buying or borrowing it. For me it was and is the most influential biking video ever.

With March coming to an end, and April slowly creeping along, I long for summer. Most of March has consisted of sitting in the house watching bike vids and wishing for the snow to leave. With about four rides under my belt so far this season, it's shaping up to be a wicked one. I've accomplished many things I wasn't able to do last season, and its still early. As shown in pics I have posted, most of the snow is gone from the uptown area and it is rideable now.

As mentioned, March is coming to a close and not much has really happened bike-wise. I'm hoping that April brings more things bike-related in New Brunswick. Spring will be here, time change is coming up, and more people will be dialed for riding.

It is official now - we are getting a skate park in Saint John. It will be located beside Harbour Station, underneath the overpass. From what I've heard, it will be the biggest park on the east coast (east of Ontario, and north of Boston). Construction begins in June and it's scheduled to be open on July 1st. It is part of the new "Waterfront Development Program". Bikers probably won't be able to get near the place for the first month. Undoubtedly, it will be booming with people. I hope to get up there and check it out when it opens, however I may still be in Miramichi at the June 26th BMX/MTB competition.

If anyone is planning on coming to Saint John, be sure to shoot me a PM. I can ride almost anytime and we can always get a group out to ride. At the moment, Sundays are looking like our main ride days. We mostly go uptown, sometimes venture out to the east side, or the north end, to check out some cool spots. Look out in the future for pics as we hit these places up.

Overall, March was a pretty quiet month. The snow is now gone (knocks on wood) and spring is due to hit. With everything everyone has been doing this season so far, this summer is bound to be awesome! We look forward to riders from other areas coming our way - we'll show you some places to hit up, and I plan on going to Halifax, and surrounding areas this summer too. I hope everyone in Nova Scotia is able to see some dirt/grass by now. Get out, ride your bikes, and always wear a lid!

Myk
