NS Scene Report #2
And just when the trails were getting nice and crusty...
It looks like this week's snowfall has all but dashed any hopes of getting those choice winter rides in, but hey prove me wrong.
The off season is proving to be pretty busy for a few folks in the 902.
News from Bicycle Nova Scotia
The webpage has been updated, check it out and word is that BNS is (or was) looking for a MTN Bike Chair. The 2004 season is starting to take shape and all BNS sanctioned events should be posted on the site in the very near future.
There's also news from the retail front After a little time away from the scene, veteran wrencher/rider and all 'round good guy Tom Kavanaugh is back in the bike biz. He can be found turning wrenches and telling tales in a certain Sackville bike shop, pop in and say "hi". St. Patrick's day isn't too far off so you can expect Tommy's Camelback to smell suspiciously like Guinness. Mmmm... Guinness!
More trails!
Want something included in the NS Scene Report? PM me. Nowlan did. He tells me that he's in the process of building 3-4 DH trails in and around the HRM. One at the head of the St. Margaret's Bay Rd., one by the 3 pools or Hell's Gate in the Valley, one at Jack's Lake and one near the rifle range in Bedford. For my money nothing gets you down a hill faster than being shot at with a high powered rifle.Nowlan promises the trails should be done by Spring '04. Lend him a hand, if you want somewhere to ride, grab a shovel and an axe and get to it!
So, now that we're snowed in what do we do? The ECMTB Forum has been hopping with discussion on off season training, here's Nelly's top ten ways to stay fit during the Snow-Tastic Winter of '04
10. Endless hours on the windtrainer in front of Euro-Cycling DVD's chasing Cippolini 'cuz he's the dreamiest.
9. Winter-surfing, because at those water temperatures waves are the only things that can described as "big" out there if you know what I'm sayin'.
8. One sit-up for every mis-spelled word on the ECMTB forums. (6 pack abs by lunch time)
7. Snowshoeing. Extra points for big-ass fur hat and pelts. Quebecois "coureur du bois" accent optional.
6. Sitting at the edge of my bed, staring at the floor and wondering where it all went wrong. Oops, that's top ten ways I spent my Christmas Holidays.
5. Cross Country skiing. If only for the full Lycra bodysuit. (Doubles as fetish-wear)
4. Sex! I hear it's also really good when you do it with another person.
3. Figure skating. The flippy little skirts are irresistable. I'm lookin' your way, Nimzie!
2. Four words to fitness. Sweatin' to the Oldies!
And the number one way to stay fit this winter...
1. Winter rides because somewhere under 100cm of snow, I swear there's a trail.
That's it for frosty February, if you want anything included in next month's scene report don't hesitate to PM me.
See ya next month.
