Fabien Barel Wins Mega Avalanche

Fabien Barel of the Kona Clarks Factory Team has won the Mega Avalanche race in the Reunion Islands. No UCI points were awarded, as you might have guessed, and kicking butt in random fests held on small French-speaking islands in the Indian Ocean is not really part of Fabien's world cup prep strategy.

Russ reports that, "The race was an epic for some people taking over an hour due to some big climbs and amazingly technical descents. Fabien completed the race in 42 minutes. There were around 450 competitors and luckily Fabien started from the first row; after the starting gun he made it into first place. However on the next climb he started to struggle and was overtaken by 5 riders ... however on the next descent he caught them all, catching the last rider on the final corner just 200 meters from the finish!"

Fabien said "This was a really hard race, I decided to ride my Dawg Primo as the climbs were very tough and I struggled a lot with my fitness, but the descents were good and the bike handled very well and I took some good lines especially on the last corner to take the win, I am really happy"
